Under the Alien Tort Claims Act, a U.S. company can be sued in America for its actions abroad. Because of the popular culture Coca-Cola and the expansion of American businesses to other countries unrest has occured. Colombia has a reputation as one of the most dangerous places in the world in which to be a union activist. Most observers of Colombia’s endless civil wars agree that the majority of attacks on unions come from paramilitary death squads, who have intimidated, beaten, kidnapped and killed union members.

The United states has a huge influence over many Countries. Although we share some of the same technologies, the United states tends to be a step ahead of most. Colombia and The United states share many similarites of popular culture such as jeans and computers. While the two countries share similarities, they also maintain their own identities which make them different from one another. In Colombia, Spanish is spoken as a first language and milk is delivered in bags instead of the bottles Americans are accustomed too. In the United States, technology is very advanced and almost every person uses technology on a daily basis. The United states changes more rapidly than lower developed countries such as Colombia. While change happens very fast in America, Colombia changes over time.
